Why Biden Struggles With Young People
Biden's approval among voters 18-24 is 25% in the latest Quinnipiac poll. Here’s why.
First lets establish one very important thing:
Younger people are more progressive. Young people are much more likely to support racial and ethic diversity. They believe in a man made climate crisis. They also want the government to take action. Here’s some data from the Pew Research Center:
Let’s use marijuana as an example. During the 2020 campaign, Biden promised to decriminalize it. 70% of Americans 18-29 want him to go farther and legalize it. Biden has not done either.
We saw earlier that a majority of Americans think that the Earth is getting warmer due to human activity. The Biden administration seems to agree, calling the situation a “climate emergency.” But Biden still claims that his powers are limited.
In a recent Data for Progress poll, 72% of people ages 18 to 34 supported some kind of student debt relief for every borrower. But Biden is still undecided about canceling student debt.
This is backed up by poll data.
A December Morning Consult poll found that 45% of voters 18-34 thought that President Biden had accomplished less than they expected. More than any other age group
There are plenty of other disappointments effecting young people. Getting rid of the child tax credit, taking universal Pre-K out of Build Back Better, and failing to pass a $15 minimum wage are among the most obvious. The Biden administration is failing young people.
